I'm shooting a movie in that state where the Packers play in a couple of weeks. It's called "DOZERS" and it's being written and directed by my boys Don Adams and Harry James Picardi. Should be fun -- I'll spill my guts more on it later.
Sunday nights; film acting workshop -- be there or... I don't know, something bad will happen to you.
I'll try to update more this year. Apparently, some of you read this stuff...

Just got back from Warrensburg MO shooting a movie called "ALBINO FARM." Finished up my part here in L.A. on "TRAILER PARK OF TERROR." Enjoyed both shoots a lot -- very cool people on both films -- cast and crew.
More on both of these epics soon...

Thanks to Garrett Clancy for teaching the acting class while I was laboring in MO.

Best,
D.W.

Howdy... Just got back from Atlanta; worked on a film with my main most man, Dan Roebuck in a film called "REX." Produced by our writing partner on "MURDER A-GO-GO", Sam "Heavy Hands" Borowski.
Directed by Christopher Miller who was very cool. Met a lot of great people and saw some people from the heavy "DEATH BRAND" shoot.

I've got a couple of new films I'm about to work on. Interesting stuff... more on that later.

The FILM ACTING WORKSHOP is going strong on Sunday nights. E-mail if you want more info.

Best,
D.W.

Thanks to everyone who worked on the S.C. "DEATH BRAND" shoot. It couldn't have went much better. Everybody kicked ass under really ridiculous circumstances. Looking forward to knocking this thing off.

Again, thanks to everybody -- cast, crew, everybody who helped out in any way.
Thanks to Dan Roebuck and Gary Grahm for covering the acting class for me.
Best,
D.W.

Happy "V" Day

Lot of festival stuff to report. Here we go... "Broke Sky" is in South By Southwest in Austin Texas. That's March 9-17th. Great festival. I play a supporting role in the film which stars Joe Unger and Will Wallace. "Eddie Presley" was in the very first SXSW back in 94.

"Cold Ones" is in the Buffalo Niagra Film Festival which is March 26-31. I co-star in that with C.Thomas Howel and Joe Unger (again).

"Cordoba Nights" is in the Delray Beach Festival. That's March 13th - 18th. There is a nice article on this film in the new "Indie-Slate" magazine which I'm sure you all get anyway... There's a link on my site to it. There's a link on my MY-SPACE page to "Cordoba Nights".

I'll be shooting something next month in South Carolina... very hush hush...

GENE RUTHERFORD
1939 -- 2006

While scanning the obituaries in the SAG magazine the other day I came across a name I knew well -- Gene Rutherford. Gene had suffered from mental illness for years and had been living in Memphis as far as I knew. I stayed in touch with him until about five or six years ago when his phone was shut off. I was told second-hand that he was in an institution somewhere in Tennessee but I wasn't able to track him down.
I was having a conversation with a friend of mine who is in the business a few weeks back about Gene. I was telling him how much Gene had meant to me in my early days in Hollywood. I remember saying I had a feeling he might not be with us anymore.
I met Gene in 80' or 81' when he saw me in a little showcase production I was in. He gave me some nice comments on my work, gave me his number, and got into an ancient taxi cab and drove away. I ask about him and was told that he had been a working actor at one time but had somehow screwed it up and didn't work any longer.
A couple of days later we were in a coffee shop where he mesmerized me with Hollywood and New York "Show-biz" tales. He told me about his career and how he had suffered a mental breakdown. "Duane, I went out to the edge and I looked over..." Gene went out to the edge and fell off eventually although he did make a brief comeback booking some T.V. shows like "TrapperJohn," "The Fall Guy" and a show called "Strike Force."
He had another "breakdown" and eventually ended up on my floor after being tossed from some mission down town. My cousin was already on the floor of my single... it was interesting. He finally got too whacked out and I had to ask him to leave.
He was a huge man but he had a gentle spirit. Certainly the brightest person I've ever known, he was also the first person to really encourage me in L.A. I've never had the career he thought I would but he made me believe it was going to happen -- that I would "make it" in the business. His encouragement meant a lot to me because he had been there. It meant more than I even realized at the time.
We would meet up and bullshit at coffee shops all over Hollywood. Even though most of our conversations weren't about acting specifically, I learned more about the craft and the business of Film acting from Gene than from anyone before or since. He would have been a great teacher. In fact, when I was about to start my film acting class the first time, I wrote Gene and ask him to relate anything he might think was useful to me -- specifically his memories of Sandy Meisner who he had studied with in New York. He sent me back some great notes which I still refer to.
Gene was a one in a million character that will never come again. The most interesting person to come into my life -- and I've known some damned interesting people. I wish he could have harnessed all those demons and had the career he so desperately wanted.
He made it real for me.
He made it all seem possible.
He was a great friend and I'll miss him.

Just worked a day on a film called "THE BUTCHER" with the great Eric Roberts. Eric was the coolest -- wanted to do something with him for years. Hope to be doing another project with him. Very talented dude.
The director was Jesse Johnson, who I just met recently through Bob Hayes, who shot the film. Bob did all the black and white flash-back stuff in "EDDIE PRESLEY" and I believe this is the first time we've worked together since.
Nice to meet and work with good people.

Thanks again to everybody who supported "FEAST." It's out there everywhere -- go get it.

Going to go check out the AFM tomorrow after I play a little early shift tennis.

Doing a showcase in the Film Acting Class after the first of the year. It's going to be a really unique show -- e-mail or call if you want to get involved.

Best,
D.W.

Heavy flashback photo from 1986. This is from a production of "Butterflies Are Free" in Santa Monica. Notice I have stolen the cool blonde chick from the poor blind bastard...

I had planned on putting this up and then a few days later Edward Albert passed away. He was, of course, Don in the film version. I saw that film when I was just starting to consider becoming an actor and it sort inspired me in a way. I met Edward at a signing a while back and he was very cool. Very sad to lose someone this young.

I want to thank everybody for coming out and supporting "FEAST." It was a blast to see it play in front of some great crowds. I believe the DVD is out on the 22nd. Rent it -- buy it...

A new interview with me at www.upcominghorrormovies.com
Don't know if it's up yet or not.

The Film Acting Class is on Sunday nights in the new Studio. E-mail me if you want to check it out.

Just got back from the "FEAST" premeire in Vegas. Very cool deal at the PALMS casino by my close friends the Maloofs. (They really aren't close friends but I met some of them...)
I thought Ben and Matt might have gotten a little bigger reaction than me on the red carpet but I'm not going to take it personally.
The movie looked and sounded great -- see it in the theaters on the 22nd.
Some movement on "THE DEATH BRAND" -- more on that soon.

8/22/06

There is a new interview of me up at www.actorsspot.com
Anyone interested in the film acting class should contact me at 323.856.4767 or e-mail me from the site.

7/23/06

Shot my part in "URBAN DECAY" the other night. Went really well
-- a lot of fun. The director, Harry Basil, was the coolest, as
was Dean Cain.

The Film Acting Class moves to Studio City next week. It's a
great space -- come and check it out. Jeremiah Comey is doing a
hell of a job on the place. Can't wait to move in there...

Getting ready to raise funds for "THE DEATH BRAND." Get in while
there's still time!

PEACEMAKER played a heavy-duty outdoor gig a few weeks back. It
was like WOODSTOCK 3... sort of.

Get on the "FEAST" bandwagon now. Setember 22nd. My-space --
Feast The Movie.

Best,
D.W.

7/04/06

Happy 4th

I'm working on a movie called "URBAN DECAY" in a couple of
weeks. It was written by the great Don Adams and the great Harry
Picarti. Nice scene with Dean Cain who I hear is a very cool
dude. I portray the "Burly Bum."
I'll be producing a film written by the great Adam Minarovich,
called -- "THE DEATH BRAND." I'll also be playing a part in
it... probably be bringing snacks to the set and holding boom...
The Film Acting Workshop is moving to Studio City in a few
weeks. I'm still looking for a few dedicated actors for the
class. I'm not looking for people who are just playing around.
If you want to work at the craft of Film Acting and it is your
intent to make a living working in this business -- then I'd be
interested in talking to you about the class.
At whatever level you're at, I can help you get better. I can
also help you get work but I expect at least a minimum level of
commitment. I continue to be amazed at the half-assed effort
actors put into their careers. Then, ten years down the road,
when they've accomplished nothing, they want you to sit and cry
with them.
You generally have to put something in to get something out.
Talent is over-rated. Drive and a solid work ethic will take you
further a lot of the time.

Take Care,
D.W.

6/13/06

Greetings. Just finished shooting a pilot called "PAWS." Very funny stuff -- about some people running a dog boarding joint. I play the ex-southern rocker, Duane. What are the odds? Written and directed by a very talented dude, Ben Koldyke. Had a great time on this one.

"FEAST" UPDATE! "Feast" is coming out on September 22nd. Check it out on MY-SPACE at FEAST THE MOVIE.

PEACEMAKER will be out picking and grinning again soon. Stay tuned at www.peacemakertheband.com

The PAWN SHOP will be open soon... some very heavy items will be up for sale.

There is a cut of "COLD ONES" which I hope to be seeing soon.

Be sure to rent or buy Jeff Burr's "STRAIGHT INTO DARKNESS." Great film -- came out 6/6.

Take Care, D.W.

I am back from the great state of Texas. As prophesied I won first place in the tennis. Actually my team won and it was doubles and I had a great partner -- but, I still achieved world domination in celebrity tennis.

A really great event; would love to do it again.

I'd like to thank the great Dan Roebuck for stepping in for me at the acting class. Lunch. I'll get the tip.

I'm doing a pilot presentation in June. I'll talk more about it later but it's a very cool script and involves a lot of very talented people. Really looking forward to shooting it.

I'm still looking for a few actors for the Film Actors Workshop. E-mail me off the site here or leave a message at 323.856-4767 to set up an interview.

Best,
D.W.

Howdy. A lot of interesting things happening. The acting class is up and running and it's a really great group. Very happy with the actors I'm working with. Still room for some new people; if you're interested, check out the info on the acting class page and E-mail me to set up an interview.

I will be playing tennis in Austin at the Twelfth Annual Chartwells Texas State Celebrity Classic. It's the weekend of May 6-8, 2006. I'll be dominating the tennis on Monday.

My new band, "PEACEMAKER" (like the Gun), will be playing out starting in May. Check back for info as it gets closer. Some good "Hillbilly" music...

Looks like "30 - WEIGHT" may end up being shot in Las Vegas. Some stuff happening with that right now. We'll see...

Best,

D.W.

Welcome to the new web-site. It's all Adam Minarovich's fault.
The acting class is starting up again on April 2nd. Looking forward to getting started with that. We're going to be working out of my friend Jeremiah Comey's studio in Hollywood where I taught before. Nice little studio with a unique camera set-up. Click on the acting class page for more info.

I wanted to mention the Flatland Film Festival in my home town of Lubbock Texas. I sat on a panel at the festival last year -- the first one. Very nice people and they give $$$ prizes. I believe they are just doing shorts again but checkem' out at flatlandfilmfestival.com and send them your movie.

I spoke with Garrett Clancy the other day about "COLD ONES." They are cutting away on it. The film stars C. Thomas and myself and a lot of other cool people -- should be a neat little film. It's on imdb.

Also did a small film in Cleveland a while back called "CORDOBA NIGHTS" for a company called Compound Pictures. They're on my links page -- great people.

Also finished up Tom Callaway's epic "BROKE SKY" with Joe Unger and Will Wallace in Texas. brokesky.com

We're looking for financing again on "30 - WEIGHT." There's some info about the project at texastroubleentertainment.com

Till next time,
D.W.
